Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid opens UAE’s first children speciality hospital

DUBAI // The country’s first children’s speciality hospital has been opened by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid.

The Vice President and Ruler of Dubai inaugurated the 200-bed Al Jalila Children’s hospital on Tuesday.

“The healthcare sector is high on the list of the government’s priorities, and we will continue to work to boost the capabilities of this sector and enhance the infrastructure required to promote its growth,” said Sheikh Mohammed.

“We are committed to providing all the support necessary to ensure this sector is able to provide the highest levels of service. The government is also working to help the healthcare sector meet its vital requirements for human resources, including doctors and nurses, who are key for it to provide services that meet the highest global standards.”

Plans for the hospital were originally developed by Sheikh Mohammed, the Dubai Health Authority and the office of Princess Haya bint Al Hussein in 2008.

Sheikha Al Jalila, after whom the hospital has been named and who was present at the inauguration, said she was honoured and excited to see her father’s dream come to life.

“I know that all the children of the UAE will love this hospital. I know how hard he works to take care of children and young people, and I am so proud of him,” said Sheikha Al Jalila.

Dr Moza Al Zaabi, chief executive of the hospital, said it will be staffed by a team of highly qualified clinicians and nurses.

The opening was also attended by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, Deputy Ruler of Dubai; Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group; Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed and ministers and senior officials, reported Wam, the state news agency.
