Family friend says Amal Clooney is expecting twins



LOS ANGELES // Amal Clooney, the prominent Lebanese-British human rights lawyer and wife of American actor George, is pregnant with twins, a family friend said on Wednesday.

“She’s pregnant with twins,” the friend said, confirming rumours that began when Mrs Clooney was photographed in Barcelona apparently looking a little “rounder” than usual.

The family asked to remain anonymous and provided no further details about the when the babies are due or what sex they are.

The human rights lawyer, who celebrated her 39th birthday last week, married Holloywood star George Clooney, 55 in Venice in 2014. After the wedding, she threw her legal clout and newfound celebrity behind a series of high-profile cases including Britain’s possible restitution of the Elgin Marbles to Greece.

Her clients include former Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko and Australian WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. She also advised the `king of Bahrain.

She defended Al-Jazeera reporter Mohamed Fahmy after he was jailed in Egypt and was part of the legal team for former Maldives president Mohamed Nasheed following his toppling in 2012.

She has also defended the cause of young Yazidi women who were abused by ISIL

The former Amal Alamuddin was born in Lebanon but her family moved to Britain when she was three years old to escape the civil war. She graduated in law from Oxford University and is qualified to practise law in both the UK and the US.

Actor, producer and director Mr Clooney shot to fame in the television hospital drama series ER.
