Standstill traffic as accidents hit major Dubai roads this afternoon

Traffic was at a virtual standstill on several major Dubai roads on Sunday as a series of accidents slowed movement to a crawl.

Emirates Road and routes from old Dubai to Sharjah were all heavily clogged at 4.30pm, hit by accidents and an early Ramadan rush hour.

Dubai Police reported a "major accident" on Emirates Road in the Khawaneej area close to the border with Sharjah about 4.30pm and an hour earlier a crash on Al Khail Road near the Business Bay crossing.

Google Maps also flagged crashes close to Al Maktoum Bridge.

Police urged drivers to take more care and not to rush home from work.
