Dutch supermarket chain Spar has opened its first branch in Dubai.

The new store opened its doors on Hessa Street this week, bringing with it a fresh bakery, butchers and fish counter.

Popular throughout Europe, Spar already has branches in Abu Dhabi and other areas other parts of the UAE, but this is the first store for Dubai.

The 725 square metre supermarket has been designed to appeal to both national and international customers, bringing with it a host of globally recongnised brands, as well as regional delicacies.

The store also features a roastery, Food-to-Go, delicatessen and an Arabic bakery, alongside imported and local fresh meats, Arabic snacks and sweets, and healthy organic products.

“Since launching in Abu Dhabi in 2012, Spar has gone from strength to strength in the Middle East region and today has a presence in four of the six GCC states,” says Tobias Wasmuht, managing director of Spar International. “We are delighted with the launch of the first Spar Supermarket in Dubai, another fantastic achievement for our Spar UAE Partners, with whom we have a longstanding relationship.”

There are now 31 Spars in the UAE, with four added in 2018.
